ES/VFR White Fire Retardant
ES/VFR White Fire Retardant Coating is a decorative base coat designed to offer a comprehensive solution for achieving spread of flame to timber substrates. Easily applied both externally and internally by brush, roller or spray.
This system is designed to achieve a British Class O and Euroclass B-s1,d0 rating to timber substrates thicker than 9mm.

ES/VFR White Fire Retardant Paint is a single pack fire retardant base coat that requires a top coat.
We recommend the following topcoats to go over ES/VFR White:
- HW Ultra White topcoat for internal use
- HW Excel White topcoat for external use
Both of these are available in a matt, satin, or gloss finish.

ES/VFR can be used both internally and externally.
Application Rate: 2 coats at 10m² per litre per coat: 1 litre will cover 5m²
Application of ES/VFR White:
ES/VFR White Fire Retardant Coating can be applied with a brush, roller or airless spray and has a theoretical coverage rate of 5m² per litre.
After applying the first coating, you must allow 2-6 hours before applying a second coat, drying times will be dependent upon temperature and humidity.
External Environments
In external environments, you must apply a primer, such as HWAP, before applying the fire retardant. Then two coats of Excel White topcoat. The spreading rates for this system are:
- 1 coat of primer – applied at 10sqm per litre
- 2 coats of ES/VFR fire retardant – applied at 10sqm per litre per coat
- 2 coats of Excel White topcoat – applied at 10sqm per litre per coat
Internal Environments
We recommend applying a primer. This is compulsory if your surface is already treated.
Spreading rates for this system:
- 1 coat of primer – applied at 10sqm per litre
- 2 coats of ES/VFR fire retardant – applied at 10sqm per litre per coat
- 1 coat of Ultra White topcoat – applied at 10sqm per litre
Technical Information of ES/VFR White:
This product has had numerous tests on many surfaces to meet BS476 Part 6 (1989) Spread of Flame and BS476 Part 7 (1989) Spread of Flame.
Complies with Classification B/S1/d0 of European Standard EN13501 Parts EN13823 (2002) single burn test (SBI) and EN11925-2 (2002) ignitability.
Not suitable for application on areas of high impact, such as floors, stairs and hot drinks tables.
